Vision, focus, and execution.

It is almost never a one-and-done: Coach does not drop in, deliver a speech, and leave. The work starts with your data, then runs from a walkthrough, through your leadership team, to every classroom.

First

A preliminary review of your data and needs

A quick Zoom with your leaders to look at your test data, discipline referrals, and where your budget is heavy or light. Think of it as the blood work before the treatment. It tells Coach what your district needs, and it shapes everything that follows: vision, focus, and execution.

AOne day, on site

The Walkthrough Evaluation

Coach walks your campus or your whole district with you and your leadership team, reads the building the way a coach reads film, and ends the day with a summative review of your next steps.

First: the preliminary review

Every engagement starts with the data. In a quick Zoom, Coach and your leaders go through your state test results or NWEA MAP data, your discipline referrals, and, if you want it, a financial review of where the district is heavy and where it is light. Like blood work at the doctor, it shows what is really going on before anyone prescribes anything.

A. The Walkthrough Evaluation

One day on site. Every campus, with you and your principals. A summative review of next steps by the end of the day. Full details here.

B. Leadership Team Sessions

Most leadership training starts with what your weakness is. Coach starts with why you got into this at all, and builds from everyone's strengths. Over a series of sessions with your administrative team, he works through the evaluation instrument you already use and what to look for in it, how to read your data the way you would read a map, and what to praise so the right things grow. With his most recent district he met three times with the administrative team before the first teacher ever sat in a training. That is the point: the leaders have to be able to see it before the staff can be asked to do it. Coach learned that the hard way. He used to go straight to the staff in-service, and when he came back he found the leadership team did not understand the work well enough to follow up. Now the leaders come first.

C. The Staff In-Service

Coach uses only what the research puts near the top of the list for moving student learning, and it has nothing to do with widgets. It is high expectations, classroom discipline, and the relationships that make both possible. His staff days draw on Time To Teach classroom management and student engagement training, where he is a fully certified trainer, so that what the leadership team decided to look for is exactly what teachers are taught to do. Love, trust, and respect, built on purpose, in every room.

What it is really about

Big companies, big organizations, and high-performing schools are not built by turnover, by changing everything, or by a new principal. They are built by a better focus: why am I here, what is my strength, and what is the short list of things this role needs from me. Coach helps every person on your team find that list, and then walks with them while they work it.

Common questions

Can we skip the walkthrough and go straight to training?

You can ask, but Coach will tell you why he would rather not. The walkthrough is how he learns what your buildings need, so the sessions and the in-service are built for you instead of pulled off a shelf.

How long does the whole engagement take?

It depends on the district. Some run the three steps across one semester, others across a school year with ongoing sessions. Coach shapes it with you after the walkthrough.

Is the staff in-service the Time To Teach training?

It draws on it. Coach is a fully certified Time To Teach trainer, and classroom management and student engagement are two of the highest-leverage things a staff can get better at. He fits the day to what the walkthrough showed.
